The day before the move

Check the forecast and access to both homes. Agree with building maintenance on paths and unloading space. Do not assume the vehicle can stop right at the door.

During loading

• Clear the route and ensure lighting and a safe surface.
• Protect floors without creating slippery surfaces or trip hazards.
• Keep dry boxes under cover, not on snow.
• Do not block shared doors or emergency exits.
• Keep documents and first-day essentials with you.

Appliances and sensitive items

Check manufacturers’ guidance on storage temperature, transport and switching on after cold exposure. There is no universal waiting time for all appliances. Plan separately for plants and other temperature-sensitive items.

Backup plan

Exchange contacts, agree what to do if delayed and leave a buffer before key handover. Check rescheduling terms before payment.
